FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Can I pack my own belongings?
A: Yes, with the understanding that items packed by owner will not be
insurable.
Q: What if I do not have enough household goods and personal effects
for a full container?
A: Less than container loads (LCL) are quite common. If your shipment
is one, your household goods and personal effects will be loaded in
containers known as liftvans. These liftvans will then be loaded into
a steamship container with other LCL shipments and then shipped to
the closet port to your new home.
Q: Are my items insured?
A: Items that are professionally packed by the movers are covered at
$0.60 per pound per item (for international moves). This coverage is
no cost to you. As an example, a 100-pound sofa the maximum liability
to the carrier would be $60.00. On a 20-pound table, the maximum liability
would be $12.00.
Q: What if I do not have a delivery address?
A: Your household goods and personal effects can still be shipped as
long as you know the town you will be moving to. You would like to
get an address before your belongings arrive so that you do not incur
any additional storage charges. Once this information is known let
your relocation coordinator know as soon as possible.
Q: Can I ship my personal effects in my automobile?
A: If your vehicle is being taken directly to the docks to be shipped,
you will not be able to keep anything in it other than the spare tire,
jack, floor mats, and a car seat if needed.
Q: What do I need to do to prepare my automobile for shipping?
A: When shipping your vehicle out of Hawaii you will need a copy of the
title or a letter from the loan provider authorizing you to ship the
vehicle out of the state. You will also need a copy of the registration.
The fuel level will need to be less than a quarter of a tank. All alarms
will need to be deactivated as well.
